He Got Him That Legendary Gig?!

He Got Him That Legendary Gig?!

Who’s responsible for inviting the Jimi Hendrix Experience to play the Monterey Pop Festival? Here’s a hint. It was a famous British bass player. The answer is Paul McCartney. Even though Chas Chandler, the famous bass player for the Animals who managed Hendrix, would directly be on the other side of the table making the appearance happen, Sir Paul sat on a board of governors for the festival, and made the invitation to the group. The Experience made rock history at the event, and Hendrix’s return to the states was more than triumphant. It’s too bad Hendrix’s tour manager Mike Jeffrey made the astoundingly bad decision to book the Jimi Hendrix Experience to open for the Monkees directly following Monterey. That made rock history too, as one of the worst tour pairings ever made.
