It’s March 1969, and this British band is having the biggest hit of their career over a year after they disbanded. Their signature song was recorded in September of 67 and initially released in early 68 to no fanfare in the states, and very little airplay in the UK. But in the US, things started to look up. What is the name of the group and song? The answer is… The Zombies and “Time Of The Season”. With a little help from one of the most creative A&R men of the day, radio started to listen. The rest of the country agreed with this hip A&R man from Columbia Records, agreeing all the way up to number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number one on Cash Box in ‘69. The surprise hit is now held in the highest regard and considered one of the best songs from the 1960s. So, if you love this song, give thanks to A&R man and label mate Al Kooper. He’s the man!
