If James Brown records from 1968 to 1974 were the blueprint of funk, then James Brown Band instrumentals were the bricks. Not long before JB's band became the JB's, they released a full length album titled James Brown Directs and Dances With The James Brown Band: The Popcorn. The entire album is essential, and every track a winner. Off of that full length release came a couple of 45 releases.... "The Popcorn / The Chicken" (coming soon) and "Soul Pride Pt. 1 / Pt. 2". It's not just legend that James Brown worked his band to perfection, and fined band members for playing wrong notes. That may seem a little harsh, but listen to how tight they were on "Soul Pride".
