Which John Hughes film went to theaters without a soundtrack record released for it? Here’s a hint. The final scene & end credits played out to Yello’s “Oh Yeah”... chicka chick ah! Surprisingly, the answer is Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. With so much music included in the movie and the massive popularity of the film, record stores saw a big demand increase for individual tracks from the film, like Wayne Newton’s “Danke Schoen" and the Beatles version of “Twist and Shout”. In fact, the demand was so high for the Beatles track after the film was released that Capitol records reissued it on 45 in 1986! There was one official release from the movie at the time… a single promo only 45 of the Flowerpot Men’s “Beat City”. For the John Hughes superfans, a UK only box set titled Life Moves Pretty Fast: The John Hughes Mixtapes was released in late 2022, and that set does include the music from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.
