US Radio Banned An Instrumental Song?!

What is the only instrumental song banned by American radio stations? Here’s a hint. It was revitalized in the 90s after appearing on one of the 10 best-selling movie soundtracks of all time. Here’s your answer… "Rumble" by Link Wray. In the 1950s, rumble was slang for gang fighting. Phil Everly of the Everly Brothers told Wray in the studio when recording the song that he should name it "Rumble", because it sounded like a street fight. The name alone was thought to promote indecency and juvenile delinquency, so it was banned by American radio. And if you’re a Quentin Tarantino fan, you know the song for its inclusion in the movie Pulp Fiction.
