Before they morphed into the high-street electronics giant, Curry’s started life in 1884 turning out bicycles—and, for a spell, their own bargain-bin 78s. The earliest Curry’s discs were Edison Bell pressings that simply recycled matrices from Bell and Winner; after WWI they relaunched using Guardsman masters, then in 1921 tapped Crystalate to reissue selections from the Imperial catalogue. The label’s final flourish came as paste-over Curry’s stickers on unsold Piccadilly stock, moving dusty shelves of shellac right up until 1929.
